VOTE ON RELATIONSHIP TO ELCA SUNDAY, JULY 25 AFTER WORSHIP

At a special meeting of the Congregation Council Sunday, July 25 was selected for the Special and historic Congregational Meeting; to be preceded by a mailing of FAQ’s and an extensive information meeting on next Sunday, July 11.

Next week’s information meeting July 11, after worship (and lunch provided) will be an opportunity to get updated on the nuts and bolts of what has happened. Then we will break out into groups of 6, moderated by a council member, so that everyone has an opportunity to speak, raise questions and discuss with others. Any view will be of equal value.

Moderators will not share their own opinions, and someone else in the group will be a recorder. We will then gather to report to the whole group. At that time any questions will be answered and other items will be considered.

The council wants everyone to be as fully informed on the issues so that, after 2 weeks of prayerful reflection, voting members will vote on Sunday, July 25. The constitution requires voting members to be present to vote and to be an active member of St. Francis.

May’s Synod Assembly voted overwhelmingly to invite St. Francis to return to the ELCA and this is the constitutional basis for our process.

PLEASE JOIN US JULY 25TH FOR THIS IMPORTANT MEETING.

FURNISHING THE PARSONAGE

Lutheran Volunteer Corps (LVC) members will be moving into the parsonage on Belcher St., in August. The lease is from August to August 2011 while the parsonage is empty.

The Corps members will come from all over the country to serve community service groups in San Francisco for one year with modest stipend. There will be 6 of them in the 3 bedroom house.

In 1976, Luther Place Church in Washington, DC began to explore how the Lutheran community might initiate a voluntary service program, inspired by the Jesuit Volunteer Corps (JVC), Mennonite Voluntary Service (MVS), and other services organizations, centered around principles of social justice, community living and simplified lifestyles. In 2010 124 volunteers are serving all over the United States.

Since the volunteers living in the parsonage bring very little, we are asked to help furnish the house with many items from 6 beds to kitchen utensils. A complete listing will be posted on the notice board in the Parish Hall. If you can help just put your name against an item or items. For further information please see Tom Tragardh.

Please do not bring anything to the church. We have no place to store them while the parsonage is being renovated.

See www.lutheranvolunteercorps.org for further information about the LVC.
