PARADE INFORMATION

We will meet on Beale Street between Folsom and Harrison Streets beginning at 10:00 a.m. Our contingent is #169 immediately in front of Oasis, the Episcopal group.

At 10:30 a.m. we will celebrate the Eucharist with Lutheran Bishop Mark Holmerud preaching and Episcopal Bishop Marc Andrus Presiding. Try to be there by 12:15 PM, in order for our contingent to get organized and our monitors in place. In the past we have begun to move closer to 1 PM.

CEREMONY SURPRISE

A year ago Dion Wong and Benjamin (Benjie) Aquino contacted St. Francis about holding their renewal of vows ceremony last Saturday, June 19.

Of course, we were delighted. So I met with them and we planned the event together. They have been together for 15 years, and were married at City Hall in that brief and glorious time in 2003. They gave up waiting for full legal recognition and decided to go ahead and renew those vows.

The ceremony on Saturday, June 19, was extraordinary. You could see how their love for each other had grown in their fifteen years together. Single, straight, lesbian and gay couples attended from various Asian communities of the Bay Area.

I was surprised by the number of cameras, some that looked like huge TV news cameras. I thought, “Wow, they really go in for the technology.” Only after the service had ended a TV news reporter asked for an interview. Later, I asked Dion and Benjie and they told me that they invited the media so that the Filipino community would see their witness at this historic church.

The news report can be accessed at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0i250Tgs7yk Listen at the end for their special love.

VOTE ON RELATIONSHIP TO ELCA SUNDAY, JULY 25 AFTER WORSHIP

At a special meeting of the Congregation Council Sunday, July 25 was selected for the Special and historic Congregational Meeting; to be preceded by a mailing of FAQ’s and an extensive information meeting on Sunday, July 11.

An information meeting will be held on July 11 after worship. A luncheon will be provided as we get updated on the nuts and bolts of what has happened. Then we will break out into groups of 6, moderated by a council member, so that everyone has an opportunity to speak, raise questions and discuss with others. Any view will be of equal value.

Moderators will not share their own opinions, and someone else in the group will be a recorder. We will then gather to report to the whole group. At that time any questions will be answered and other items will be considered.

The council wants everyone to be as fully informed on the issues so that, after 2 weeks of prayerful reflection, voting members will vote on Sunday, July 25. The constitution requires voting members to be present to vote and to be an active member of St. Francis. An official notice will be sent to members in the near future.

May’s Synod Assembly voted overwhelmingly to invite St. Francis to return to the ELCA and this is the constitutional basis for our process.

PLEASE JOIN US JULY 25TH FOR THIS IMPORTANT MEETING. LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED.

NOTICE #7 June 27

Last week our electronic total was $4,240. This week we are at $5,265. This means a gain of $1,025. A bit of analysis shows that $825 of this came from Steve and Max, and the remainder from geographers. If I were paranoid rather than the patient loving fellow I am, I would be worried about all the Lutheran Team members who show no activity. But I am confident you’ll come through again. You always have.
