ST FRANCIS PRESENCE AT HISTORIC FEDERAL RALLY

Nancy and Deb on tv news

    From ABC news TV Report

On a cold Monday morning before dawn outside the Federal Court building, Deb Cote and Nancy Burns were joined by Pastors Dawn and Robert and hundreds of others in a vigil led by members of the religious community before the federal court trial on Proposition 8’s. After the sun rose, they both spoke very powerfully to the crowd on waiting to be married legally in the eyes of the state. (pictured below)

    Deb shown with other speakers

The message was clear: There is another religious view of same sex marriage and it is very positive. Debbie and Nancy made that point well when the spoke flanked by their pastors. Great job Nancy and Deb! The news video can be accessed at: http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/video?id=7211474&pid=7211543.

ELCA DISASTER RESPONSE HAITI EARTHQUAKE RELIEF

Financial gifts are urgently needed. Your gifts to ELCA International Disaster Response, designated for Haiti Earthquake Relief, will be used entirely—100 percent—for immediate relief and ongoing recovery in Haiti. Your prayers and generous gifts will make a life-saving difference. Please give today during the offering. Your $’s given via St. Francis will go directly to help.

To give directly to the ELCA by credit card, visit www.elca.org/disaster or call 800-638-3522.

    WORSHIP PARTICIPANT TRAINING

The Liturgical Deacons will be offering training for the worship participant positions of crucifer and torch bearer on February 28th, and assisting minister on March 21st. Both training days will occur after worship service and coffee hour. This is chance to find out more about these important worship roles, and hopefully, inspire you to take the leap-of-faith and give the lector role a try some Sunday morning.

If you have any questions, feel free to speak with any of the deacons -- Grant, Burger, Bruce Jervis and Paul Johnson-- or Pr. Dawn.

    UPDATES TO ELCA DOCUMENTS

There are number of documents being revised by the ELCA to allow for GLBT people to serve in ELCA rostered ministry. The ELCA is inviting responses to these drafts.

Extraordinary Lutheran Ministries (ELM) may develop an official response but it would be good for us to add our thoughts as well, so they can hear from a congregation directly affected by the proposed changes. You can find the documents here: http://www.elca.org/Growing-In-Faith/Vocation/Rostered-Leadership/Ministry-Policies.aspx
