    GABRIEL PROO RECEIVES
    KIRSTEN HAVREHED AWARD TODAY

    Picture of Gabriel

Gabriel is receiving this award in recognition of his many years of service to the Friends of St. Francis Childcare Center. He served as president of the board of directors for nine years!

COFFEE HOUR after service on November 22 will be at The Friends of St. Francis Childcare Center to honor Gabriel Proo. Come take advantage of this opportunity, and come to see the Childcare Center. Please plan on attending coffee hour for Gabriel and perhaps think about joining the Centers mission by serving on the board. Pr. Dawn is the only church member currently serving. The Center is a very short walk around the block to 50 Belcher Street.

    THANKSGIVING AT ST FRANCIS

This Thursday is the Thanksgiving Day Service (11 AM) and Community Dinner (Noon – 2 PM). Please join us that day.

We could still use more volunteers to serve, as well as more dessert sign-ups. Be sure to visit the sign up table in the Parish Hall before going over to the Childcare Center. You can also call the church office and speak to Dave Walda.

We start collecting the coin boxes today. You can leave them with an usher or put them in the collection plate. If you are still collecting coins, bring them on another Sunday.

    PICK UP YOUR TURKEY TODAY
If you are roasting a turkey provided by St. Francis for the Thanksgiving Dinner, please get one from Carl today after service. Please bring the roasted turkey by Thursday morning after 8:30 AM.

    MAY WE HAVE YOUR PLEDGE?

A heartfelt thank you to those of you who have pledged your time, talent and treasure to St. Francis! If you haven't turned in your 2010 pledge forms, please do so as soon as possible by placing them in the offering plate or by mailing, faxing, or e-mailing your forms to the church office in care of Treasurer Janet Thuesen.

The stewardship committee would love to see St. Francis be a model congregation with 100% of our membership making a pledge of time, talent and treasure to our faith community.

So far, we've received many pledges of time and talent as well as a total of $139,792 in financial pledges. Of this amount, the council, stewardship committee and St. Francis staff have pledged a combined total of $60,774. The congregation at large has pledged $79,018. Our goal for this year is $170,000.

    Council News

    Highlights from November Council Meeting

    • The council approved the benevolence committee's recommendations for the $16,000 budgeted for benevolence giving. This figure represents 10% of our projected mission & ministry offerings.
    • In January the council will contact Rev. Nancy Feniuk Nelson, Bishop's Associate of the Sierra Pacific Synod of the ELCA, for guidance with our pastoral call process.
    • The council will begin budget deliberations in December.

    ST. SAVIOR’S LAST SERVICE TODAY

St. Savior Church, which has held services here for 7 years on Sunday afternoons, informed St. Francis that the congregation decided to end their services here, effective this Sunday.

In a letter informing St. Francis of this decision, it said,

“We believe that as a community as small as ours, we are called to a better stewardship of our resources, time and energy to improve and fund our ministries and to meet in a more intimate space in order to deepen our spiritual lives together in community. We have been so grateful and privileged to have shared your beautiful space with you for the six and half years of the past seven we have existed. You gave us a home and we will always hold the St. Francis Community deep in our hearts with gratitude.

“We wish the congregation of St. Savior well in their future ministry.”

    Christmas Angels

St. Francis is again having the Christmas Angels Gift Program where members are asked to give a gift or gift card to a number of needy families at the Friends of St. Francis Childcare Center. Nancy Record will have the names of the 10 families available next Sunday, November 29, from which interested members can choose. There will also be information on suggested gifts. Please see Nancy at church November 29th if you are interested.

    HOSPITALITY HOUR UPDATE

Yes, it’s an update now, rather than “Hospitality Hour in Peril” notice. So does this mean we’ve found two more early morning Sunday volunteers to greet our Hospitality Hour guests? No—we’re still short. But over the month of October we have had enough drop-in volunteers that we’re managing.

Does that mean we are not looking for two more persons to commit to one Sunday a month? Of course not. For serenity’s sake, we do need that commitment.

Will you please consider helping us?In the meantime, Max will be asking “known supporters” for that commitment.

    ELCA CHANGES WAITING PERIOD

    From the Lutherans Concerned 11/15/09

The Church Council of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) reached near unanimity in removing the five-year waiting period for reinstatement of ministers who have been removed or resigned from the rosters of the church solely because they were in committed, same-gender relationships. The five-year waiting period is a general policy applying to anyone who had been removed for any disciplinary cause or who resigned voluntarily.

The waiver granted by today's action only applies to those removed and those who resigned solely for the reason of their being in a same-gender, committed relationship. Applications to begin the reinstatement process can now be submitted immediately. The process is individual and can vary in the length of time for completion.

The action by the Church Council directly affects Pastor Bradley Schmeling of St. John's Lutheran church in Atlanta, Georgia.

    • Jeremiah 33:14-16
    • 1 Thess. 3:9-13
    • Luke 21:25-36
    • Psalm 25:1-10

Safeway parking permits are available in the back of the church. The permits allow parking for Sunday services ONLY.
