    CALL COMMITTEE ELECTION ON NOVEMBER 15

    Pastor Robert retires in May, 2010. On Sunday, November 15, 2009, the Nominations Committee will present a slate of candidates for the future Call Committee. According to our Constitution, all voting members of the congregation are invited to vote for four females and four males, with three of the elected being members of the Congregation Council.

    Please mark this date on your calendar and plan to vote on this very important step in the future of St. Francis.

    THANKSGIVING IS ALMOST UPON US!

    As Thanksgiving approaches, we are again handing out the love loaves (boxes) to collect your coins. The funds collected from the boxes help to pay for the Thanksgiving Day Community Meal provided at St. Francis Church

    If you did not get receive a box, pick one up on the usher’s table in the Narthex. Please place your coins in it and bring it back on November 22nd.

    We are also collecting the following food items:
    Bags of stuffing
    Cans of cranberries
    Apple juice, canned
    Boxes of mashed potatoes
    Applesauce

    Bring any food donations to Sunday worship and place them in the food basket.

    Sign ups will be available starting in November for volunteers who wish to help at the Thanksgiving meal, and persons who can donate turkeys, spiral hams, desserts.

    Join fellow members at the Adult Forum every Sunday at 9:30 AM as we read together Martin Luther, A Life, by Martin Marty. The book is only $10 to keep. We will read together, chapter by chapter during the forum. Come and learn how a famous scholar assessed Martin Luther. See you there!

    ENDOWMENT DINNER

    Members of the Congregation - Please join the St. Francis Endowment Committee as their guests for dinner to learn more about the Endowment, thank our supporters and celebrate our grant recipients on Wednesday, November. 11, 6 PM, at One Market Restaurant. Invitations, with RSVP cards, were mailed last week. Please respond by November 5th.

    SWEDISH LUTHERANS APPROVE SAME SEX MARRIAGE RITES

    The Lutheran Church of Sweden voted to conduct marriage ceremonies for same-gender couples, using gender-neutral liturgies for both LGBT and heterosexual weddings. The vote was as 176-62, with 11 abstentions and 2 absences.
