The stewardship committee has designed a three-week small group discussion group series, Greeting the Fall with Thought and Purpose where in the context of Bible Study we can begin to dialogue about the outcome of the ELCA's new policy of ordaining LGBT clergy in committed relationships and what that may mean for St. Francis.

While no final decisions will be made during the discussions, the groups, starting this week, will give us the opportunity to discern our faith community’s identity and purpose, to grow in our spirituality and to learn about one another. The groups will meet at 6 p.m., and hors d’oeuvres or a light meal will be provided. If you would like to participate in one of the groups, please contact the host directly:

Keith Skelly and Bob James will host a group at their home in Cole Valley on the following Tuesdays: September 15, 22, and 29.

Paul Johnson will lead a group at the church in the St. Clare Room (the small room upstairs near the church office) on the following Wednesdays: September 16, 23, and 30.

Gene Clark will host a group at his home in Glen Park on these Thursdays: September 17, 24, and October 1.

The weekly Adult Forum will also discuss the future of St. Francis and the ELCA beginning with its September 13 meeting.

    SERVICE OPPORTUNITY

Due to Chuck Hancock’s retirement, and Rose Woodvine’s new work schedule, a volunteer is much needed to help set up for Sunday morning’s Hospitality Hour. This involves making the coffee, arranging food on the plates, and tasks such as putting sandwiches together.

This help is needed Sunday mornings from approximately 7 to 8 AM. This is a wonderful and fulfilling outreach to those in our community! Come and join us.

Questions? Call Pr. Dawn at (415) 621-2635 ext 12.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE RECENT CONGREGATIONAL COUNCIL MEETING

    * The council has begun the process of calling a pastor who will succeed Pastor Goldstein. A nominating committee has been established to select candidates for a call committee. On Sunday, November 15, a meeting will be held for the congregation to elect the members of the call committee.

    * Our budget is on track thus far, with expenses lower than expected.

    * The council approved two endowment grants. One of the grants supports the activities of Lutherans Concerned/North America at the ELCA Churchwide assembly, and the second grant provides funding for the printing of a family education booklet to help ethnically diverse families decrease rejection and increase support for their LGBT children. The booklet is an initiative of the SF State's Family Acceptance Project.
