The stewardship committee has designed a three-week small group discussion group series, Greeting the Fall with Thought and Purpose where in the context of Bible Study we can begin to dialogue about the outcome of the ELCA's new policy of ordaining LGBT clergy in committed relationships and what that may mean for St. Francis.

While no final decisions will be made during the discussions, the groups will give us the opportunity to discern our faith community’s identity and purpose, to grow in our spirituality and to learn about one another. The groups will meet at 6 p.m., and hors d’oeuvres or a light meal will be provided. If you would like to participate in one of the groups, please contact the host directly:

Keith Skelly and Bob James will host a group at their home in Cole Valley on the following Tuesdays: September 15, 22, and 29.

Paul Johnson will lead a group at the church in the St. Clare Room (the small room upstairs near the church office) on the following Wednesdays: September 16, 23, and 30.

Gene Clark will host a group at his home in Glen Park on these Thursdays: September 17, 24, and October 1.

The weekly Adult Forum will also discuss the future of St. Francis and the ELCA beginning with its September 13 meeting.

    BRING YOUR CALENDAR

The next “Bring-your-Calendar” Sunday is Sunday, September 13. The Stewardship Committee will be hosting coffee hour on that day and signing up members for worship assistant duties (crucifers, assistant ministers, bringing flowers, etc.). Please consider ways in which you can use your gifts to enrich our worship experience here at St. Francis.

The worship participant sign up is on the bulletin board in the Parish Hall. The schedule can also be viewed on our website under Worship Participants.

PROBABLY THE LAST AIDS-WALK NOTICE OF ‘09

Yes, I know that last week I gave you the “final” AWSF Notice. Well—new information (good, too) and a comparison with 2008 (also good if you are a Lutheran) compels me to do another.

First of all, our total last week read $37,730. But then I checked individual tallies and discovered they had “lost” $250 from the Orun family who collected $1490, not $1240, and changed a geographer’s tally $100 to $10. Now our total is $38,070. Better, nicht wahr?

Then I did my 2008 and 2009 analysis:

    # Walkers

    $ Raised

    08

    09

        08

        09

    12,115

    TOTAL

    $38,070

Thus, our overall decline in total raised is almost completely from the collapse of the geography contingent, and a decline of $1000 from me. You Lutherans did just fine and our numbers increased. You should feel really, really good. Our cumulative total since 1996 is now $577,720.

    Little Maxie.
