CONGREGATIONAL MEETING NEXT SUNDAY NEXT AFTER WORSHIP

A congregational meeting will be held next Sunday, May 3rd, immediately following worship. The agenda of this meeting will include adopting revisions to the by-laws regarding the name of the St. Francis Foundation and an extension to the line of credit with our bank. Information has been mailed to all voting members of the congregation. Contact Dave Walda at the church office if you did not receive your copy. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend.

Our condolences to Deb Tully on the death of her father, Oscar Tully, April 20th. Funeral services were held on Friday.

NATIONAL SURVEY NEXT SUNDAY IN WORSHIP

St. Francis is joining over 1,200 congregations across the country to participate in the U.S. Congregational Life Survey. Every worshiper, member, friend and visitor, will get to take part.

We will be asked about faith background and beliefs, involvement in the congregation, community involvement, and views about congregational priorities.

The short, easy-to-answer survey will be passed out at the end of our worship service on May 3rd for us to fill out then and there.

This is a chance to let your voice be heard! We will receive a summary of our responses to help identify our congregation’s unique strengths and suggest steps for positive change. More information at www.uscongregations.org.

HELP! HELP! HELP!

Hospitality Hour has lost two of our long-time client-volunteers. We need help, especially with clean-up. While the rest of us get to church at 7 AM, you (who volunteer) won’t have to be here until 9 AM, and should be finished in time for the Adult Forum at 9:45 AM. If we don’t get help, Max, Chuck, and Carl are likely to be surly and (even more) unpleasant. Please contact one of these three persons if you can help or need more information.

AIDS Walk July 19 09

So here’s the deal. Though the AIDS-Walk this year is a tad distant (July 19), AWSF, the organization, is already up and running, leaving me faxes and emails and phone calls—and some of you are also getting stuff asking you to register. So I guess we should get going, too.

1. Plan your summer so that you are here for the Walk on July 19th.
2. Begin now to mend fences with all potential sponsors.
3. You will soon receive materials from AWSF if you raised money last year. That’s because I just registered you. If, for some truly tragic reason, you can’t help us this year, let me know and I’ll un-register you.

As for the rest of you, I will be hitting the tables at coffee hour to register you.

Let’s do grand work this year.

JEWISH COMMUNITY RELATIONS COUNCIL AND INTERFAITH PARTNERS

To Recruit Volunteers to Confront Poverty at April 29th Event
Contact: Linda Frank, co-chair 415-263-8926; Linda@franknet.net

Lend a Hand, Share a Skill, Lift a Spirit is the theme of an interfaith volunteer recruitment “fair” scheduled for Wednesday, April 29, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco, 3200 California Street. The event will match volunteers’ interests and skills to tasks offered by participating nonprofit agencies.

Co-sponsors includes the Jewish Community Center, Jewish Family & Children’s Service, Temple Emanu-El and Episcopal Charities. These and other agencies will also “exhibit” their volunteer offerings. JCRC plans to implement a simple matching system that will steer potential volunteers to appropriate agencies, making the recruitment event an efficient use of both attendees’ and exhibitors’ time.

New and gently used children’s books will also be collected by the Jewish Coalition for Literacy, a tutoring program in public schools. Collection barrels for non-perishable food and personal hygiene items to be donated to the San Francisco Food Bank and San Francisco Connect, respectively, will also be available. The event is free for volunteers and agencies.
