CONGREGATIONAL MEETING SUNDAY, MAY 3^rd AFTER WORSHIP

A congregation meeting has been scheduled for Sunday, May 3, 2009, immediately following worship. The agenda of this meeting will include adopting revisions to the by-laws regarding the name of the St. Francis Foundation and an extension to the line of credit with our bank. MARRIAGE RIGHTS FOR ALL SPREAD TO IOWA AND VERMONT

A unanimous decision of Iowa’s State Supreme Court and an override of Vermont’s governor’s veto by its legislature paved the way for equality in marriage in those states and bringing the encouraging light of hope in the civil rights’ struggle of LGBTQ people. Whether these decisions will have an effect on the California Supreme Court as it reviews the legality of Proposition 8 is imponderable. But, on Pastor Robert’s trip to Israel was San Francisco’s Chief Deputy City Attorney, Therese Stewart, who argued impressively against Proposition 8 before the California Supreme Court. She felt that the Hearing gave the impression that the justices were backtracking on their original decision. Yet she said that the actions in Iowa and Vermont were psychological victories. Still, she was not optimistic.
