We all need to focus on defeating Proposition 8 to end Gay marriage. Pastors Robert and Dawn have been meeting and working with others to integrate St. Francis into the adventure and struggle to keep back the religious forces of darkness and homophobia. Here’s how you can help: |
Dialogue Dinners |
From our Council Retreat we decided to help bridge differences with the religious community by inviting members of a congregation to dine at a restaurant in their community with some of our members. We have begun to send out invitations to churches in the Bay Area that are not RIC* and are awaiting their response. |
*RIC = Reconciling in Christ—congregations that have followed the Lutheran process to become welcoming to LGBTQ persons. |

Today following the service will be sign ups for worship opportunities and helping at the booth at the Castro Street Fair October 5th. You can sign up to be a lector, usher, coffee hosts, provide altar flowers, crucifer and assisting minister through December 2008. Paul Johnson and Brandee Marckmann will be leading the process this time! Brief training sessions on the worship assistant positions will be held immediately following coffee hour. |

Today’s coffee hour is hosted by the St. Francis and Friends Team for Race for the Cure. Team members will be available to receive donations. A drawing will be held. |

St. Francis was visited by the wife of Martin Luther, Katharine von Bora (as interpreted by Pastor Robert) on September 7, when she was guest preacher. |

The St. Vincent DePaul Committee is gearing up for the Thanksgiving Day Dinner offered to the community at no charge. Due to increased cost of food, a decrease of food available at the San Francisco Food Bank, and a decrease in contributions to the St. Vincent DePaul fund, the committee is asking for help from you. |

The 22nd Annual AIDS Walk raised a new-record $4,512,934. This was our 12th year as a team. We raised $43,204 this year and our cumulative total now is $538,900. Though we slipped from #11 last year to a tie for #17 this year, we still made the top 20 teams, out of 900.
