HOUSTON TEXAS ORDINATION |
| From Lutheran True Confessions and Pastor Robert |
 |
| |
On Saturday, July 26 about 150 people assembled at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Houston, Texas to participate in the ordination extra ordinem of Pastor Lura Groen. Pastor Groen is rostered with Extraordinary Lutheran Ministries and was called by Grace on April 27 to serve as pastor.
Pastor Arnold Tiemeyer (below) presided at the Rite of Ordination. The Rev. Dr. Stephen Ray of Garrett Theological Seminary preached. Participating in the ordination were clergy from the ELCA, ELM, the Lutheran Church in Canada, the Episcopal Church, the Presbyterian Church, the United Church of Christ, and the Roman Catholic Church. Dr. Goldstein represented St. Francis, and recently ordained Pastor Leon Ketola passed on the ELM stole to Pr. Lura.
Grace Church is located in the Montrose section of Houston —an area of artists and other progressives in this Texas city. Grace has an exciting past of support for LGBTQ persons and a likewise promising future.
ELM (Extraordinary Lutheran Ministries) is an organization designed to roster and support brave clergy who refuse to abide by the national church’s unjust policy of requiring only LGBT clergy and laity to be celibate. Ordinations are extraordinary because the official Lutheran Church would not ordinarily ordain, but is in keeping with historic Lutheran teaching.

HOME OF FAMILY OF FRIENDS OF ST. FRANCIS CHILDCARE CENTER RANSACKED
One of the center’s hard-working families returned home Monday, July 28th to find their apartment torn apart, their dog cowering under a bed, and everything of value stolen. Items that had been major investments to this family were gone—a digital camera, Dell computer, the boy’s Playstation and Xbox were gone. And many personal items were missing.
Gabriel, aged 9 and his brother aged 7 were afraid to go to bed. Their mother told me she knows the most important thing is they are all safe.
When bad things happen to good people, small gestures of kindness can make a big difference. If anyone has an idea about helping out, please contact me at the Childcare Center.

YOUR PASTORS CARE
If you would like one of your pastors to listen to your concerns or pain, don't hesitate to ask us -make an appointment, or ask us to call you or mark the pew card. We can be distracted at times on Sundays, so it is best to set aside another time when we can really listen. Pastors Robert and Dawn
