MARCH IN THE PRIDE PARADE

Join fellow Lutherans from all over the Bay Area and, because of Hearts on Fire, from all over the United States and Canada in the Pride Parade. Here is the information you need:

Line-Up Contingent Number: 164.
Assembly Area Location: On Beal Street between Howard Street and Folsom Street.

We will assemble behind the convertible carrying our Bishop Elect Mark W. Holmerud and his wife Debbie. We need to be in place no later than 12:30 p.m. or as close to that as possible.

If someone is providing transportation for you, go East on Folsom Street, which is one way, and exit at the corner of Folsom Street and Beal Street.

There is no parking in the area so the driver of your vehicle must continue on and leave the area altogether.

You may also use Bart or Muni to get to the Assembly Area. Exit at the Embarcadero Station and walk West to Beal Street on Market Street and turn left on Beal Street. Our Assembly Area Location is on Beal Street between Howard Street and Folsom Street.

Since our pastors are marching they will leave immediately after worship.

GALA FUN!

trike 1

It was a great evening! Lots of fun, delicious food prepared from our Cookbook’s recipes, good wines, a great roast of Dale Leininger, a giant cake and a spectacular tricycle race between the pastors on the Terrace. Pastor Robert narrowly won the Tricycle Race!

As of this moment $5,863 was raised for Mission and Ministry. Thanks to all who contributed items for the silent auction and for all who worked to make this mini-GALA such a success.

WALKING TOUR STILL AVAILABLE

The walking tour of the inner Mission district offered by Max Kirkeberg at last week’s Gala still has 14 openings available. The tour will be on July 19 starting at 10 AM. A sign up sheet will be in the Parish Hall during Sunday’s coffee hour for those wishing to go on the walk. The cost is $20.00 each, which can be paid to the church office. These funds will go toward Mission and Ministry. Contact Dave Walda for further information.

AIRLINE MILES NEEDED

Do you have airlines miles so that Pastor Robert can represent us at the Extraordinary Ordination of Lura Groen at Grace Lutheran Church in Houston, Texas on Saturday, July 26?. Please contact the church office or Pastor Robert. We would be most grateful.

KNUTSONS’ LAST SUNDAY

The Church Office has been informed that Sunday, July 13th will be the final Sunday for Paul, Kristi, Emma, Jasper and newborn Penelope Camille. Join us that Sunday to meet Penelope and wish them all Godspeed to Minnesota.

THANKSGIVING FOOD BASKET

San Francisco has nearly 150,000 persons who live under the threat of hunger.

Consider purchasing extra cans of food, and bring them on Sunday to put in our basket. Food not used for Hospitality will be donated to the San Francisco Food Bank. Food that can be accepted include canned vegetables, canned fruit, tuna, canned meats, soups, stews and chili, peanut butter and cereal (no glass containers or perishable food, please).

BULLETIN #5

I’ve gotten 3 more persons from school to join our team. No news whatsoever from church. Is no news good news? For the moment I’m leaning that way. I still haven’t sent out my solicitations. As usual I use the charmingly obsolete US mail system. You past sponsors will hear from me next week.

Even without those letters I’ve heard from 5 of my reliable sponsors and am at the $366.00 mark. Sure do hope all you guys and gals are well into those solicitating emails.

Oh yeah– and finally, thanks for so joyously singing “Trygare kan ingen vara”. Or better yet, “Tack så mycket.” Maxie

hedge triming

FEAST OF THE PRUNING
OF THE GREAT HEDGE JULY 19

This annual event will meet to trim the hedge that runs along the Memorial Terrace to the back garden. It starts at 10 AM and runs to 2 PM. Bring your work gloves, water, and anything else appropriate to the occasion.

CHEF CHUCK RESIGNS

Church Council received with regret and thanks the resignation of Chuck Hancock as a chef of the Senior Center, effective September 30th. Chuck, along with Diane DeLange, have provided nutritious and delicious meals for the seniors and staff.

Chuck cited health reasons for his decision. We will miss his presence and skills on Wednesdays. He says he will continue working for the Sunday morning meal. Diane will continue, of course to cook for the senior center.

We are now looking for a replacement chef for the Senior Program beginning December 1st. If you know someone please contact the church office.

ADULT FORUM

Adult Forum is currently reading La Vida Sacra. This book is about Hispanic religion and liturgy and how we can begin to understand its many gifts to enhance our life and worship as Christians.

Join us on Sundays at 9:30 AM in the Conference Room.

Usher

As previously announced we now have usher teams. There has been a great response to the request for team members to pick a Sunday on which they will be responsible once a month. The current team list is below.

Each team should have a team leader to whom the rest of the team would contact to confirm their participation on the respective Sunday of the month. If the team leader has not been informed of the ushers available for their Sunday, the leader can contact the team individuals to insure coverage.

The 2nd Sunday team has a leader. The other teams’ members should select (or volunteer) a leader and inform the church office so it can be publicized in the Times and on the website. The website has the teams and usher duties. Look for the link on the homepage.

Other individuals may still sign up to usher. Please contact the church office to add your name.

YOUR PASTORS CARE

If you would like one of your pastors to listen to your concerns or pain, don't hesitate to ask us -make an appointment, or ask us to call you or mark the pew card. We can be distracted at times on Sundays, so it is best to set aside another time when we can really listen. Pastors Robert and Dawn

OF HISTORICAL INTEREST

Amma and Alen Bjornstad

Jon Bjornstad sent this photo of his parents’ wartime wedding photo. Amma and Allen Bjornstad, with their witnesses, were married in 1945 at Ansgar Lutheran Church (a predecessor name for St. Francis.) The church and the apartment building at 1945 are behind them. Jon wrote a history of his family for his sister Elin Bjonstad Ovick who died from cancer last Wednesday. May Elin Rest in Peace.
