ST.VINCENT dePAUL COMMITTEE RAISES THE DOUGH

Cookie dough, that is.

The St. Vincent de Paul Committee held a bake sale on June 15th. After the final tally, the sale raised $349.00 for the committee's programs. Under the coordination of Barbara Kling, 6 persons met at the church kitchen the day before to bake cookies and brownies for the sale. Carl Tebell brought cookie dough from a couple of his delicious recipes. Tables were set up near the kitchen and everyone helped to make cookie dough, prepare the cookie sheets, bake, label and fill the cookie bags.

There were three special items that were auctioned off - a strawberry rhubarb pie baked by Pastor Robert and 2 cream cheese pumpkin logs made by Carl.

The money raised will be used for the programs of the committee, the Sunday Hospitality and the annual Thanksgiving Day dinner. The extra fund raising is necessary as the cost of food and supplies continues to rise. Anyone interested in making a donation to the committee can send in a check marked "St. Vincent de Paul Committee.

KNUTSONS’ LAST SUNDAY

The Church Office has been informed that Sunday, July 13th will be the final Sunday for Paul, Kristi, Emma, Jasper and newborn Penelope Camille. Join us that Sunday to meet Penelope and wish them all Godspeed to Minnesota.

THANKSGIVING FOOD BASKET

San Francisco has nearly 150,000 persons who live under the threat of hunger.

Consider purchasing extra cans of food, and bring them on Sunday to put in our basket. Food not used for Hospitality will be donated to the San Francisco Food Bank. Food that can be accepted include canned vegetables, canned fruit, tuna, canned meats, soups, stews and chili, peanut butter and cereal (no glass containers or perishable food, please).

BULLETIN #4

We have good news and then really, really disappointing news. First the good news: the geographers who have been preparing (at their cost!) our after-the-walk barbeque, have announced that they will do it again. Yea, yea, yea. I’ve also had a geographer hand in her checks since she is off to Italy for a month. She achieved Starwalker status by raising $1050.00. Way to go, Ellen!

Now for some disappointing news, followed by the really, really disappointing stuff. I have heard from no (zero) Lutherans about either a) commiting themselves to achieve Starwalker status or b) recruiting folks to the team. I’m hoping the problem is communication- i.e. you just haven’t gotten around to telling me your great news. As to the really, really disappointing news, I have heard from one of my long time sponsors that she will be sponsoring “C.T.” and not “MCK” because he asked her first. Because I am way too busy with classes, my solicitation letter will be late. Let this notice inform all previous sponsors that I’m asking for your help again. And so I’m asking first. You know who you are. Thanks for reading along.
“Tack så mycket.” Maxie

Also from Maxie regarding Hymns:

We are using many hymns from the new ELCA hymnal. This hymnal includes hymns from Asia, Africa and Latin America —often with the first verse in the original language. They have also done this with German and Swedish hymns.

FEAST OF THE PRUNING
OF THE GREAT HEDGE JULY 19

This annual event will meet to trim the hedge that runs along the Memorial Terrace to the back garden. It starts at 10 AM and runs to 2 PM. Bring your work gloves, water, and anything else appropriate to the occasion.

CHEF CHUCK RESIGNS

Church Council received with regret and thanks the resignation of Chuck Hancock as a chef of the Senior Center, effective September 30th. Chuck, along with Diane DeLange, have provided nutritious and delicious meals for the seniors and staff.

Chuck cited health reasons for his decision. We will miss his presence and skills on Wednesdays. He says he will continue working for the Sunday morning meal. Diane will continue, of course to cook for the senior center.

We are now looking for a replacement chef for the Senior Program beginning December 1st. If you know someone please contact the church office.

ADULT FORUM

Adult Forum is currently reading La Vida Sacra. This book is about Hispanic religion and liturgy and how we can begin to understand its many gifts to enhance our life and worship as Christians.

Join us on Sundays at 9:30 AM in the Conference Room.

Usher

As previously announced we now have usher teams. There has been a great response to the request for team members to pick a Sunday on which they will be responsible once a month. The current team list is below.

Each team should have a team leader to whom the rest of the team would contact to confirm their participation on the respective Sunday of the month. If the team leader has not been informed of the ushers available for their Sunday, the leader can contact the team individuals to insure coverage.

The 2nd Sunday team has a leader. The other teams’ members should select (or volunteer) a leader and inform the church office so it can be publicized in the Times and on the website. The website has the teams and usher duties. Look for the link on the homepage.

Other individuals may still sign up to usher. Please contact the church office to add your name.

YOUR PASTORS CARE

If you would like one of your pastors to listen to your concerns or pain, don't hesitate to ask us -make an appointment, or ask us to call you or mark the pew card. We can be distracted at times on Sundays, so it is best to set aside another time when we can really listen. Pastors Robert and Dawn

CHURCH OFFICE HOURS

Though the church office is open from 8:30 to 5 PM, it is important that appointments be made when visiting Dave Walda, the Senior Parish Administrator. Since Dave has been given the responsibility of property manager, he may not always be in the office, but out attending to the property duties. Please call ahead and make an appointment with Dave to insure he will be at the office for your business. Thanks!

FROM CATHARINE COONS

We’ve had our regular holiday programs for the Kampala kids, plus our on-ongoing Saturday Clubs. Letter-writing and giving out of school supplies took place just before the second school term of the year started a couple of weeks ago.

We plan to air a documentary on Hope Alive! on nation-wide television, as well as create shorter secular and Christian versions that I and others can show in the U.S. to raise awareness about what Hope Alive! is doing to meet the overwhelming needs here in Uganda. I’ll let you know dates as they become available.

Other exciting news is that we are now sponsoring almost 500 kids and are enrolling more! Just today we hired a site manager for our Masaka site, and we have someone we’ll be interviewing for our Kampala site, as well. May God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in your life through Jesus Christ.
