Blessed are they who die in Christ Jesus.

SOLIDARITY FOR POLAND

Last Sunday, Michael Petrelis asked anyone interested in posting their picture on the web with signs expressing solidarity for gay persons in Poland. The Polish Prime Minister had abused a movie of a gay marriage in the US of Brendan Fay and Tom Moulton to foment his brand of rabid homophobia. Because of Michael’s witness thanks have been received from Poland including a picture of a Polish man and his sign.

And now, Michael has received word from Tomasz Szypula, spokesman for the Campaign Against Homophobia, one of Poland's gay political organizations, that, the US gay couple are traveling to Warsaw this weekend, invited by a Polish TV network to come and appear on a program, all expenses paid by the network. In addition to being guests on the TV show, they will be meeting with gay activists and with the staff of the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights, and also attending church.

Help the People of Tibet

San Francisco is the only city in the United States that will be hosting the Olympic torch on its journey around the world prior to the Olympics to be held this August in Beijing. The Tibetan community of the Bay Area will be joining other communities to protest on April 8th and 9th in San Francisco, and today we are respectfully seeking your help in one of two ways:

Please join us on April 8th and 9th in San Francisco to speak out against oppression and for human rights in the world. Please consider housing a Tibetan activistor supporter coming to the Bay Area to make their voices heard. We are expecting several hundred, if not thousands, of people and are in urgent need of housing for them. We truly appreciate your consideration in this matter and in closing would like to quote the wisdom of Martin Luther King, Jr.:

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

Please contact the undersigned if you are able to help us in housing our visiting concerned brothers and sisters.

With deep gratitude,
Bonnie McCalla, Former president
Bay Area Friends of Tibet,

YOUR PASTORS CARE

If you would like one of your pastors to listen to your concerns or pain, don't hesitate to ask us -make an appointment, or ask us to call you or mark the pew card. We can be distracted at times on Sundays, so it is best to set aside another time when we can really listen. Pastors Robert and Dawn

Hearts on Fire Conference
Hearts on Fire logo

Lutherans Concerned/North America invites people of all sexual orientations and gender identities to assemble with members of Reconciling in Christ and prospective RIC congregations at San Francisco State University July 3-6 under the theme, Hearts on Fire.

We’ll worship together, using a rich variety of traditions of the worshipping community. We’ll provide a blend of the familiar and the unique drawing on our Lutheran heritage and the wealth of liturgical practice in the area. We’ll network with one another, hear stories of joy and frustration, and make decisions together about the future direction of Lutherans Concerned/North America.

Hearts on Fire. is more than a conference. We take pride in nurturing our participants. Many see the biennial assembly as a family reunion. In 2008, we hope to expand that family feeling by offering some new and exciting aspects to the assembly. Assembly Pre-Events offer extra education and edification before the assembly begins. Vacation Bible School will be offered for children of Assembly attendees and local RIC congregations. This will allow children to have a meaningful Assembly experience along with parents. Keynote Speakers include the Rt. Rev. Gene Robinson, Episcopal Bishop of New Hampshire.

Information and Registration are at http://www.lcna.org/assembly/ This event is right in our backyard. We have been asked to provide many volunteers -the more the merrier. If you able to assist to any degree, please talk to the pastors. We also need to consider whether St. Francis will be a hospitality center because we are on the Muni line that goes to and from San Francisco State. Many attendees could stop at St. Francis as their beginning point for visiting the Castro community.

INSTALLATION AT MCC

On Sunday, April 20th at 4:30 PM at St. Gregory of Nyssa Episcopal Church, 500 De Haro Street, the Rev. Lea D. Brown will be installed as MCC’s new Senior Minister. Guest preacher will be the Rev. Dr. G. Penny Nixon.
