PLAQUE UNVEILED LAST SUNDAY

Last Sunday an historic plaque was unveiled at the south end of the front of the church building - just above the foundation stone. In the coming weeks the copper time capsule will be sealed into the open top of the foundation stone and the stone will be bricked in for, God willing, the next 100 years.

WEEKLY STEWARDSHIP Q & A
How should we respond to what God has given us?
Gratefully! Everything we are, have, and use comes from God, including the gift of Christ and the community of believers. It all begins with God and in gratitude we put God first.
FIFTH SUNDAY FORUM
Every fifth Sunday of the month a forum is held during coffee hour for congregation, council and pastors to share and to learn about issues of our common life. The first was devoted to worship and feedback was received and is being acted upon. On Sunday, September 30 the Property Committee will lead the forum. An informational memorandum in a pre-addressed envelope has been prepared that can be picked up today, Sunday September 23rd, to read before next week’s meeting. Members and Friends are encouraged to pick up their copy today. Envelopes remaining will be mailed on Monday.
WE REALLY NEED TEACHERS
For our exciting Sunday School to succeed we really need to have you as a teacher. Teaching will be in 4-6 week segments and there will be training and lots of material support. Please, prayerfully consider becoming part of the teaching team. Please see Pastor Dawn as soon as possible.

WE CARE
If you would like one of your pastors to listen to your concerns or pain, don’t hesitate to ask us -make an appointment, or ask us to call you or mark the pew card. We can be distracted at times on Sundays, so it is best to set aside another time when we can really listen.

UPDATE ON THE FOOD BASKET |
It has been wonderful to see the basket of food processing to the altar during Sunday worship. Some of the food has been used to make soup for the homeless, which is one of their favorite meals. Please continue to bring your food offering to church on Sunday mornings and leave it in the basket as you enter the sanctuary.
Food that can be accepted include: canned vegetables, canned fruit, tuna, canned meats, soups, stews and chili, peanut butter and cereal (no glass containers or perishable food, please). Some of the food will be used for Sunday’s Community Hospitality. The remaining donations will be given to the San Francisco Food Bank.-Pastor Dawn

PENNIES FOR THE WELCOME MINISTRY
A new parable...
At church this Sunday, the gospel text was the parable of the woman who searches for her lost coin. Immediately after the service a woman came to who said she didn't attend church but wanted to bring her tithes for the Homeless ministry. Then she handed me a ragged silver coin purse and left as quickly as she had come. In the coin purse was $1,176 in folded up bills of assorted sizes. On a day of a parable about searching mightily for money, money came to us in a completely unexpected way, when we weren't looking for it. God is amazing!
When I am on street retreat with the Faithful Fools, we look for pennies and we often find more when we stop looking for them. And each time I do, I remember that there is nothing worth too little to be picked up. This may explain why I sometimes exhibit more patience with our Homeless and Hungry neighbors then others are able to muster. I believe and I am assured that nothing is "not worth it" for God and I strive mightily to live in the same way.
After walking this way for years, almost always stopping to pick up pennies and be with the Poor, the Fools and I have come to firmly believe that we will have what we need before it is asked of us. The woman with the silver bag came in this way. We never could have planned it and it may never happen again.
P.S Tuesdays at 1:30 pm, before the Welcome Center opens, we read from a book of letters written my Mother Theresa. Mother Theresa always capitalized the word Poor because she believes that Christ is in the Poor and deserves capitalization. I have chosen to capitalize words like "Poor" and "Homeless" for the same reason. Pastor Megan Rohrer
