BEVERLY HINES TO STEP DOWN AS SENIOR DIRECTOR
Beverly Hines, Interim Senior Program Director, will hand over her duties to Pr. Dawn Roginski on Sept. 12 as part of our Vision process. "Beverly has done an extraordinary ministry and will continue as a member of the Seniors meeting on Wednesdays," said Pr. Robert. Pr. Dawn concurs and adds, "Beverly is so organized, I can just pick up where she left off. I am glad we will still have her around so she can continue relationships built with the seniors."

is our theme for 2007-08 Stewardship at St. Francis is becoming much more than just a two-month pledge program - it will include year-round experiences and activities, such as discussions on faith practices, devotions, sharing our personal stories, supporting the development of the Diaconate Program and encouraging worship.
Beginning at worship on Sunday, Sept. 9, and continuing through the year, we will hear one of our own tell their story of being involved at St. Francis and why being part of this congregation’s ministry is so important to that person. You will also be invited to share your story of participation in and connection to the life of our congregation one-on-one with a member of the Stewardship Committee, and, if you like, with the entire congregation. Please contact any of the members of the committee if you have any questions: Jim Asp, Grant Burger, Bruce Jervis, Paul Johnson, Jim Kowalksi, Nancy Loewe, Brandee Marckmann, Susan Tucerri, Pr. Robert Goldstein and Pr. Dawn Roginski.
FORMER ST. PAULUS CHURCH TEACHER PASSES
Norma Concordia Hopfer, who taught at St. Paulus Lutheran Church for many years, passed on August 25th at the age of 94 years old. Norma was hired by the Pastor at St. Paulus in 1951 even though she had not received her teaching credentials. Norma did receive her Masters in creative arts and teaching in 1955. Norma taught third and fourth grades, and kindergarten, her favorite class. Norma had a passion for educating young children, and helping the homeless and disenfranchised.
After her retirement at St. Paulus, Norma taught persons on an individual basis, and attended courses at the Fromm Institute. She continued to be involved with the ministry at St. Paulus, often making banners, and other crafts involving sewing and tailoring, of which she was very skilled.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday September 1st, at Christ Church Lutheran, 1090 Quintara at 20th Avenue. Her obituary is in the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our thanks to Mike Callahan who collects vintage photos of San Francisco. Mike discovered the church in this dramatic photo of the Great Earthquake and Fire of 1906. The fire is advancing toward Market and Dolores Sts. Also revealed is a very undeveloped south side of Mint Hill where the Safeway now is.
SUNDAY SCHOOL COMING SOON!!
We are planning to start a Sunday school this fall. We need some help purchasing kid-friendly furniture for the room. Please consider making a special donation so we can have a good looking room. Also, if you are in a store selling school supplies, we could use washable markers, colored pencils, child scissors and glue sticks. Just bring them with you to church and give them to Pr. Dawn. Thanks for your willingness to help.
SUNDAY CLASS
We are reading Bishop John Spong’s latest book, Jesus for the Non Religious. As usual for Bishop Spong, this too is a controversial and provocative book. Please join us for an animated discussion about our faith in the 21st Century in San Francisco. Pastor Robert
