THE REV. DAWN ROGINSKI
ORDAINED AND INSTALLED

ordination

A festive and historic moment in the life of St. Francis it was indeed. Pastor Dawn Roginski begins ministry as Pastor of Parish Programs.

For St. Francis this event stirred memories of the Extraordinary ordinations of Pastors Ruth Frost, Jeff Johnson and Phyllis Zillhart, occasioned by an unjust celibacy rule against LGBT clergy, that ignited the movement for justice for LGBT clergy in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Today almost one third of ELCA synods are calling for the end of that unjust rule.

For St. Francis, Pastor Dawn’s installation fulfills the Vision of 2004 to call a pastor to develop St. Francis’ ministry and membership in the communities of the Duboce Triangle, the Castro and Noe Valley and beyond: a congregation for all persons of our richly diverse neighborhood. And now our prayers, our efforts and our support are called forth in support of this one whom God has brought to us.

GREETINGS FROM YOUR NEW PASTOR

Pastor Dawn Roginski

I thank God for the opportunity to be among and serve you as pastor. I want to take the opportunity to give thanks to all the people who worked hard on the ordination and installation. First, I want to thank Pr Goldstein who did what he could from his sickbed. Thanks to David Walda for spending a lot of time working on the bulletins and answering my questions. Thanks to Jim Kowalski for the all the time spent preparing for the media and the gala. Thanks to Paul Brenner for help with worship planning and for being an excellent verger. Thanks to David Schofield who helped with music planning and did a great job playing the organ. And last but not least, thanks to all the worship participants, photographers, and videographers. All of your work made for wonderful celebrations.

Regarding the parish programs I have a request to you. I want to start a Sunday school and bring the families to worship. I would love to hear your ideas about structure and materials. I will be starting a committee for Sunday school and am looking for people willing to help plan and/or teach. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please let me know. If you are interested in being a teacher only, please let me know also. I am thinking of structuring the teaching so that a teacher will take the classes for a short time, reducing the amount of time commitment. Together we can create a wonderful ministry for the children of our congregation.

I want to meet with you to get to know you. Please contact me to schedule a time for an informal meeting. There will be opportunities to meet in small groups in July. I look forward to talking with you. Please do not hesitate to call and/or send me an email: RevDRoginski-at-sbcglobal.net.

SUNDAY CLASS

We are reading Bishop John Spong’s latest book, Jesus for the Non Religious. As usual for Bishop Spong, this too is a controversial and provocative book. Please join us for an animated discussion about our faith in the 21st Century in San Francisco. Pastor Robert

FIFTH SUNDAY FORUM

The next fifth Sunday, July 29th, will be our first Fifth Sunday Forum and it will combine the coffee hour with an open forum of Council and Congregation on our worship life. Another Fifth Sunday Forum is planned for September 30th as an open forum on our Property.

AIDS WALK UPDATE

First of all, the correct total as of June 20th was $3,745.00. As of June 27th, our team total is $6,110.00. Yea. The Lutheran take has gone from 3 persons raising $742.00 to 7 persons raising $1,737.50 (versus 10 geographers raising $4,372.50). Most of the Lutheran take comes from 3 folks: Jim A., Jane M., and Gabriel P. Together their total is $1,375.00. OK.

In spite of my fears, the t-shirts are fabulous. Thanks to Brandee Marckmann, Carl Tebell, Babs Kling, Eric Shifler, Gabriel Proo, and especially Karl Brice from St. Marks who supervised the dyeing process, and brought all the supplies.

We should have about 20 shirts for sale with the St. Francis logo on it. The price is $12 (you can give more if so moved) and you will be the envy of the city.
